Honoring Chad’s Legacy by Supporting Future Financial Planners
The Financial Planning Association of the East Bay is honored to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Chad V. Perbeck Memorial Scholarship. This annual award was created in memory of our dear friend and longtime board member, Chad Perbeck, who dedicated his career to financial education and the pursuit of the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation.
Chad’s commitment to excellence and his passion for uplifting future financial planners continue through this scholarship, which provides two $1,000 awards each year to students pursuing their CFP® designation or participating in the FPA Residency Program.

Scholarship Options
Applicants may choose one of the following categories:
- CFP® Certificant Scholarship
- FPA Residency Scholarship
Award Amount
- $1,000 to each recipient
- Funds may be used for CFP® coursework, exam review, exam fees, tuition for the FPA Residency Program, or other approved expenses
Eligibility Criteria
To apply, you must:
- Have the intention to complete all required CFP® courses and become a CFP® certificate holder
- Not be receiving 50% or more employer reimbursement for CFP® education or FPA Residency Program costs
- Be a current and continuing FPA member affiliated with either the East Bay or San Francisco chapter, with a commitment to regularly attend meetings and be involved in the chapter
- Not have won another FPA or CFP®-related scholarship within the past 24 months
Application Requirements
Submit the completed application form along with:
- Professional Resume – Include all current and past employment
- Professional Affiliations and Achievements – List any affiliations, extracurricular activities, awards, and FPA-related grants
- Letter or Essay covering:
- Why you chose the financial planning profession
- The benefits of obtaining the CFP® designation
- How you will use the scholarship funds
- Your five-year career goals
- Any additional comments relevant to your application
- Letter(s) of Recommendation from instructors, CFP® practitioners, colleagues, or other qualified individuals
